Understanding Self-Storage

Self storage allows people and businesses to store their items, at affordable rates, for flexible time periods starting from 2 weeks. Self storage provides secure, do-it-yourself storage rooms for individuals, families and businesses.

As a result, homes become free of clutter, small businesses have space to grow and our customers have peace of mind that their items are in a secure place with round-the-clock access.

Extra Space Asia self storage facilities are modern, clean, bright, well-lit and feature sophisticated 24-hour security systems including a personal access code system which allows customers to access their storage space at their own convenience, seven days a week, 365 days a year. Customers rent their own clean, dry, private, self-contained storage room, and lock it with their own padlocks.

Self-storage offers customers a wide range of storage units, giving them the flexibility to rent space sizes according to their needs. These range from large lockers and small 16 sq ft walk-in storage units to big 450 sq ft units. Customers also benefit from the freedom to up or downsize at any time (subject to availability).

Unlike traditional storage, self-storage makes it possible for you to rent the exact space that suits your specific needs. You do not pay for additional space that you do not require and your storage unit can be upsized or downsized at any time.

In the past, personal and business users had to rely on removal companies and large storage organizations to store their items on their behalf with limited access, no flexibility and long-term contracts.

With self-storage, a customised hassle-free solution is now available.

A:

You can store almost anything. Examples of items for storage are furniture, documents, books, building materials, commercial stock, wine, antiques, sports equipment etc. You can also store your collectibles and any item you value but do not need in your home or office.

If you are uncertain whether your items are allowed for storage at our facility, please do not hesitate to contact any of our customer service consultants and they will be happy to assist you.

A:

Items that do not meet requirements for safety and regulatory compliance are not permitted for self storage. These items include:

  • Hazardous materials such as explosive and inflammable goods
  • Perishable items which could decompose i.e. exposed foodstuffs
  • Living items such as animals and plants
  • Stolen or illegal goods such as drugs, firearms etc

Access

A:

You have the freedom to access your items seven days a week, 24 hours a day. Go ahead and add or remove items from your storage room whenever you require.

A:

Only the registered storer is granted access to your storage unit. To grant someone access, both storer and the authorised party (or parties) are required to sign an Authorisation Form.

Rental Costs

A:

Once your storage rental has started, access to your storage units is free round the clock.

A:

The price quoted by our Customer Service Consultants includes storage charge, service charges, utility bills and maintenance costs. There are no further hidden costs.

You can purchase coverage for contents insurance which is not included in our rental.

A refundable security deposit of one month storage charge is required at the commencement of storage and refunded when you vacate your storage unit.

A one-time administration fee is required upon commencement of your storage agreement.

A:

No they don’t. Prices vary from facility to facility.

A:

The purpose of the security deposit is to safeguard both the storer’s and provider’s legal interests. As long as the storage unit is returned to us in its original state upon vacating your space, the security deposit will be refunded to you in full.

A:

No. Our $1 promo is only valid for first-time customers.

Insurance

A:

Recognising that many customers would prefer insurance protection for their items, Extra Space Asia has partnered AON Singapore to provide coverage at competitive rates.

A:

Insurance covers fire and forcible theft, and items should be insured based on their estimated value. If damage or theft occurs, you will be entitled to claim for the insured value you selected. Insurance claims always consider depreciation when determining the amount to be paid out.

A:

Yes. The Multi Risk Insurance package for wine customers includes coverage against fire, water and theft up to $50,000 per unit per annum. There is also coverage for breakage within the storage unit, which is capped at $5,000 per bottle up to a maximum of $50,000.

Sign Up and Payment

A:

Not necessarily. You may choose your preferred date, within one month from the day you sign up, to start the rental of the storage unit.

A:

We can reserve a storage unit for you up to one month when you place a one-month storage deposit.

A:

Customers will need to present their ID / Passport for verification, as well as valid contact details.

For commercial customers, you are required to bring along your company’s ACRA profile and company stamp to endorse the documents.

A:

You can mail us a cheque, pay via AXS stations, online via credit card through our website, through internet banking, or visit us at our facility to pay by cash, NETS or cheque.

A:

No. Simply sign a short storage agreement, make payment as quoted, and you will be ready to move in. Your contract is a month-to-month agreement with Extra Space Asia and comprises a simple three-page contract, which takes less than ten minutes to complete.

Transfer and Termination

A:

You will need to terminate your unit at the current facility by giving 14 days’ notice and sign up as a new customer at the other facility. This will be based on availability and price discount plans may vary.

A:

We only require 14 days’ notice of your intention to vacate your space.
A refund will be processed for the initial security deposit and any unused monies that you have paid. Notice must be given in writing, either by post or email.

Logistics

A:

We provide the convenience of purchasing packaging materials at our Box Shop. You will find a wide range of materials including boxes, bubble wrap, markers, tape, shelves, stretch films, pen knives and even padlocks.

A:

No. This is to ensure that you are the sole key holder of your space. You can purchase a new, sealed lock at any Extra Space Asia facility. No one else has a key to that lock except you.

A:

Yes. We have different trolleys and pallet jacks available free of charge for customer use.

A:

No. However if you do require assistance, our customer service consultants would be happy to recommend you a list of our preferred movers.

A:

No. However, we have a list of reputable removal service partners that we can recommend. For more details, please approach our customer service consultants.

You may seek assistance from our on-site security guards at our Boon Keng, Eunos Link, Kallang Way, & Marymount facilities) or you may call our Emergency Assistance Number after office hours. The number is located on the keypad that can be found at every entrance and exit location of the storage facility.

For our facilities at Toh Guan Road, IMM, & West Coast, you may call our Emergency Assistance Number after office hours. The number is located on the keypad that can be found at every entrance and exit location of the storage facility.

Extra Space and its agents may from time to time request such information (including your name, mailing address, e-mail address, type of request or other information) to provide you with a service or correspondence such as newsletters or promotional materials, or inform you of additional information and services, or to contact you regarding changes to the contents of this website. However, if you have registered your telephone number with the national Do Not Call (DNC) Registry, we will not send you promotional or marketing messages via your telephone unless you have provided Extra Space with your consent to do so. If you have previously provided Extra Space with such consent, then unless this is withdrawn, we may continue to send promotional and marketing messages via your telephone.

Please give Extra Space and its agents a reasonable amount of time to attend to your request as Extra Space and its agents may at times, receive large volumes of email requests of varying nature. To safeguard your personal data, all electronic storage and transmission of personal data are secured with the appropriate security technologies, Extra Space and its agents use reasonable endeavour to protect personal information from loss, misuse and alteration.
