An ExtraSpaceCares initiative

The ongoing COVID-19 has affected every part of our society and the way we live and work. With the safe distancing measures, social interaction has also been minimised, changing many of our society’s traditions and habits before the pandemic.

For this year’s Season of Giving, Extra Space Asia wanted to show our community and local small businesses some love and support. We are delighted to partner with Xin Yuan Community Care, where we prepared halal and non-halal food care packages for our friends living around the Toa Payoh area. Each food pack consists of various food items such as rice bento sets, desserts, and fruits that our friends can enjoy with their family members in the comfort of their homes. Together with volunteers from Xin Yuan Community Care, we delivered these care packs to over 180 households in the Toa Payoh area.

We were glad to brighten someone’s day with a care package delivered to their doorstep while supporting small local food businesses this festive season through this meaningful food distribution event.

Xin Yuan Community Care is a non-profit organisation established in May 2005. The charity provides regular financial assistance and daily therapeutic, health and educational support to over 250 needy elderly and 40 underprivileged children from low-income families in the Bishan-Toa Payoh area.

From the Extra Space Asia Team, we wish all a Happy New Year!

Extra Space Asia Self-Storage has always been a strong believer of giving back to the society and supporting the various community activities in where we operate in. Extra Space Asia Self Storage is delighted to be able to work alongside South East CDC for the fourth year running, where we lend our support by sponsoring the use of our storage units to store its items in preparation for its annual 3M Moves event.

Since 2013, 3M Moves @ South East, previously known as 3M Step-Up Challenge at South East, has helped over 25,700 beneficiaries with over $1.3 Million worth of 3M products. Conceptualised by South East CDC, the 3M Moves campaign is currently running for the ninth year in 2021. Extra Space Asia Self-Storage is glad to partner South East CDC in its logistics planning and storage needs once again this year.

The main objective of the 3M Moves campaign is to promote Active Citizenry and Nurture Volunteerism. This year, 3M Moves will convert the community’s participation into stationery items to aid underprivileged students in their shift from home-based to blended learning. The 3M Moves campaign is running from now till 11th October 2021. You can play an active part for this meaningful campaign by simply taking a photo or video of yourself exercising and uploading on your social media platform. Don’t forget to tag @southeastcdc, @3msingapore and #3MMoves on your social media.

Singapore’s National Day is definitely an event which brings all Singaporeans from different backgrounds and cultures together. However, with the on-going COVID-19 situation, NDP will be conducted in a safe way where Singaporeans will be celebrating our nation’s 56th birthday safely from our homes instead. To keep the spirit of National Day alive, Extra Space Asia Self Storage has once again partnered with Singapore-based social enterprise ACE Seniors in a national movement of bringing National Day celebrations to 60 nursing homes and community hospitals by 2030. This also marks our second year in collaboration with ACE Seniors in this meaningful movement.

Similar to last year, Extra Space Asia sponsored 650 care packs and specially prepared meals for our friends at Peacehaven Nursing Home and Lion’s Home for the Elders. Extra Space Asia staff also came together to sort, pack and deliver the care packs and meals to each beneficiary, ensuring that the elders were able to join in the National Day celebration safely from their homes. Each of them received an eco-friendly reusable Extra Space Asia tote bag that packed with a variety of food and hygiene products.

Through this purposeful volunteering initiative, Extra Space Asia hopes to  be able to bring cheer and joy to our elderly friends on our nation’s birthday.

Peacehaven Nursing Home is a home that offers a comprehensive gamut of services to care for the sick, frail and elderly who have physical or mental disabilities with minimal or no appropriate caregiver support at home.  Lion’s Home for the Elders is a Voluntary Welfare Organisation (VWO) that actively promotes and employs best practices in providing services and programmes for the ageing community.

From the Extra Space Asia team, we hope that you and your loved ones are staying safe and healthy!

Based on a study done in Singapore and reported on The Straits Times, about one in ten Singaporeans struggled to get sufficient, safe and nutritious food at least once in the last 12 months. Of this 10.4 per cent, two out of five households struggled to get such food once a month. The study also found that these families were more likely to be living in one-or two-room Housing Board flats.

2020 has been a difficult year that has tested us beyond measure. There were many new terms such as “lockdowns”, “social distancing”, “Tracetogether”, “SafeEntry” and “masks mandates” that became a part of our daily lives during this COVID-19 pandemic. As the year draws to a close, we understand that the pandemic will continue to impact all aspects of our lives even as we approach 2021. With this in mind, Extra Space Asia wanted to make a difference by doing its part to help those in need.

For this year’s Season of Giving, Extra Space Asia partnered with Realm of Tranquility in our first Christmas Food Distribution Drive where we prepared over 650 care packs for the beneficiaries across six different locations around Singapore. Each care pack consists of a variety of food and household necessity items. Together with the volunteers from Realm of Tranquility, we delivered these care packs to over 312 households’ in Marsiling, Woodlands, Champions Way, Commonwealth and Ho Ching area.

Through this CSR initiative, we hope we were able to provide some warmth to our needy friends and to also share the joy of giving as they celebrate Christmas.

Realm of Tranquility is a non- profit organisation with a sole objective of “Encouragement of Good Deeds.” Its vision is to promote social responsibility and to help the poor, needy, elderly and less privileged. They provide free Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), food rations to the poor and needy island wide.

From the Extra Space Asia Team, we would like to wish all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Celebrating our nation’s 55th birthday this year has definitely been a unique affair as compared to the previous years. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many large-scale celebrations and activities were no longer an option. To keep the spirit of National Day alive, Extra Space Asia Self Storage joined the national movement of bringing the celebrations to the various nursing homes and community hospitals.

In partnership with Singapore-based social enterprise ACE Seniors and Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY), Extra Space Asia sponsored 650 care packs and specially prepared meals for our friends at Peacehaven Nursing Home and Lion’s Home for the Elders. Each care pack consisted of a variety of snacks and hygiene products. Together with volunteers from other organisations, a handful of Extra Space Asia staff came together to pack and deliver the items to the beneficiaries, ensuring that they were able to enjoy the festive vibes, at the comfort of their homes.

This year’s NDP theme – Together, A Stronger Singapore – also doubles as a rallying call to Singaporeans, to play our part to push forward and determine Singapore’s future. In spite of the difficulties, as a nation, we need to stay united, help one another, and emerge stronger than before.

Through this initiative, Extra Space Asia hopes to spread the festive joy to the beneficiaries in the nursing home and community hospital, as they celebrate Singapore’s 55th birthday.

From the Extra Space Asia Team, we would like to wish all Singaporeans a Happy National Day!

Based on the Department of Statistics Singapore, as at end June 2019, the proportion of residents aged 65 years and above has increased from 8.8% in 2009 to 14.4% in 2019. This has led to the old age support ratio in Singapore (where residents aged 20-24 years per resident aged 65 years and above) to be 4.5% in 2019. With the growing numbers over the years, Extra Space Asia feels that it is imperative for us to find ways within our means to lend a helping hand to our elderly community. In 2019, we partnered with Society for the Aged Sick (SAS) and celebrated Christmas with our elderly friends at Gardens by the Bay Singapore.

SAS is a non-profit nursing home that provides residential and respite services to people in need of daily skilled nursing care and/or assistance in daily living activities, and who cannot be cared for at home, particularly the less privileged.

Through this CSR initiative, we were able to bring our elderly friends out of their home to bask in the Christmas festive spirit within the picturesque nature at Gardens by the Bay’s Poinsettia Wishes floral display, located in the Flower Dome. Since it was their first time to the Poinsettia Wishes floral display, it warms our hearts and brings us great satisfaction knowing that we were able to bring smiles and laughter to everyone during this festive and joyous period.

Here’s how our meaningful day went by with our friends at SAS.
